I have created sketches of some ideas for the painting.

These sketches are for the proposal only and will likely be revised or changed entirely, based on our discussions.

As I see it, there are two ways to approach the idea of the three services combining to from the Coast Guard.

One way would be to show all three of the services in one scene.
I have created a couple of different sketches for this, showing the Massachusetts from the bow and from the stern (from the front and from the back.) The advantage of a stern view is that the name of the schooner is prominent in the compostion. A bow view of the schooner doesn’t allow for this.
