Research

I will do all relevant historical and maritime research to ensure the accuracy of the depictions in my painting. See the research I have done so far.

Sketching and Discussion

1. I will create a series of detailed color sketches in order to determine the best design for the painting. I will show you three different options.
   (See some early preliminary sketches here. These are for the proposal only and will likely be revised or changed entirely, based on our discussions.)

2. We will discuss the sketches, and you can offer comments, suggestions, and concerns.

3. If needed, I will create a final detailed color sketch and show it to you. I want you to see exactly what you’re going to get. No surprises.

4. I will begin the painting.

Painting

The painting will be an oil painting on stretched canvas. The stretcher bars will be heavy duty and will be made of wood reinforced with aluminum.

Dimensions

I propose two possible sizes for the painting: 92 x 122 inches, and 102 x 100 inches. Click here to see how I arrived at those sizes.

Weight:

My estimate is about 30 pounds.

Framing

I would recommend a simple narrow black frame similar to that used on the 94th Infantry Division mural.

Shipping:

I will rent a van and drive the painting up to Boston. This painting will be smaller than the 94th Infantry Division mural, so it should fit in the loading dock and freight elevator. However, those dimensions need to be double checked. If necessary, I will unstretch the canvas, roll it, bring it up to Boston, and re-stretch it there in the Hall of Flags.

Installation

Since you will be handling installation, I can provide any mounting hardware that you require.

Schedule

Since the desired finish date is summer/early fall 2025, I will provide sketches for discussion in the winter of 2024/25. Final delivery date can be a date convenient to you in August or September of 2025.

Promotion

I will participate in any sort of dedication ceremony you would plan, and speak briefly about the project.

I can deliver a slide lecture about the project.

I can do Instagram posts of progress along the way.
