Proposal for a large painting at the Massachusetts State House
renderings
In order to envision the mural in place, I have created renderings of the scene.
I find this is essential to get a feel for how the mural will look in place, and how large the mural should be.
I made these renderings with PhotoShop, using photos that I took when I visited the State House in June.
What if we change the wall color?
the existing wall color
paint the wall with the average color of the marble
or maybe even paint
faux marble on the wall
Perhaps we can emulate the other murals in the building.
The older murals are flanked by architectural elements.
They fill the space between the chair rail and ceiling, and the columns on either side.
We can emulate this look by the placement and size of our mural, along with careful faux-finishing on the walls.
My conclusion
In my opinion these are the two best options.
Emulate the other murals. The painting goes from ceiling to chair rail. There is 20 inches of space on each side. Paint faux marble on the walls on both sides of the painting.
Paint the existing wall the average color of the marble. Hang the painting with about 8 inches of “breathing room'“ at top and right side, and about 14 inches at bottom to allow for the plaque.
this painting is 92x122 inches.
this painting is 102x100 inches.
Therefore, the sizes I propose are
92 x 122 inches, and 102 x 100 inches.
And now, just for fun…
Let’s imagine an alternate universe where there are no electrical fixtures on the wall, and we can fill up the space like a true mural.
